Sculpting/Brushing


Applying LipService/LBrush Modifier


Create the GeoSphere object with default parameters (4 segments). Select 'Modify' tab , open modifiers list and apply the 'LBrush' modifier to object.

Press the 'Edit Mesh'  push button (the topmost one of 'Sculpt' rollout) to start sculpting.

Starting the Sculpt


Press the 'Edit Mesh'  push button (the topmost one of 'Sculpt' rollout) to start sculpting. By default 'Brush' tool is active which. Press the 'Hammer' (Sculpt) button Sculpt Tools Palette will appear. 'Translate Tool' is selected by default. Move brush to some location on object surface, press Left Mouse button and drag to make some sculpt.

Adding Sub-Division Levels


Scroll down rollout panel to 'Sub-Divisions' rollout and press  'Subdivide'  button to create new sub-division level. Each next level will 4 times more faces. After adding some 5 levels you will get high-resolution mesh that has 327,000 faces.

Brushing on mesh


Press the 'Brush Tool'  button - the palette will appear and 'Pull' is active by default. Move the brush to some location on the surface and make strokes it should pull out the surface of mesh. You can do this on any level of the mesh, when strength is low the affect is less obvious on level 0.

Check 'On' the 'Affect Vertex Color' checkbox and make some more strokes (you can select some color using color swatch of Vert-Color/Stencil' rollup)

 
 
 

Animation


Loading the Sample Scene


Open the 'head.max' located in /scenes/LBrush directory.

Select the 'Head Object' and select the  'Modify' tab

The file contains some morph phoneme/morph targets - these are loaded into swatches of 'Phonemes' rollout. Also some targets are loaded into 'Group00' swatches of 'Performance Groups' rollout.
 

Loading the Sound


Note: Currently only stereo 16 bit/sample Microsoft .wav files are supported.

Press the button of 'Sound/Animation' rollout, browse and select the sound file you want to load.

Press the 'Play Animation' button the soundwave should play. If you press move to the previous  or the next frame using buttons of hotkeys some portion of sound should play. You can adjust the number of frames of sound which are played using 'Scrub' spinner.

Create Animation Keys


You can animate the sentence 'It so hard to catch up five hundred words' creating around 20 keys. It will take at most 5 minutes.

Move the time slider and place the phoneme keys at specified time by clicking the picture area in phoneme swatches of 'Phonemes/Morphs' rollout. There is 18 phonemes, sure there can be more, but you can use some phonemes for similar sounds as long as the mouth shape is close enough. Tip: Create 'MM' key on start/end of silence for frown, or an 'EE' key for a smile.

Note: you should not click the triangular areas of swatches for creating animation keys

Rendering


Render the movie for an active time segment.
